Guys eat a lot. They just do. When Kenton and I got married I was blown away with how much food he ate compared to how much food I ate. I couldn’t keep him full! Making meals for both of us was really challenging. Not only was I relearning the quantity of food that would satiate both of us each meal, but I was also trying to buy food that was both healthy and affordable. That was a challenge. It can be really hard to buy quality foods without breaking the bank. I mean, is there such a thing?

Enter Newly Married Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipe. For one, you literally cannot mess this up. You boil the oats and throw in the toppings. That’s it. It’s ridiculously easy and very good. Your husband will be SO impressed that you made a type of oatmeal he’s surely never heard of and he’ll think you did all this work for it, too. Well, our little secret is that this recipe will take like .5% of your brain space to make and will impress your hubby 101%, especially if he likes sweets. You can dress up this oatmeal with ANYTHING. That’s the other great thing about this oatmeal recipe – it can take many different shapes, so you won’t get sick of it! And, all of the ingredients are something you can buy once that will last you a really long time (aside from fresh fruit). But truly the topping possibilities are endless: Cocoa, Coconut, Peanuts, Almonds, Chocolate Chips, any dried fruit, any fresh fruit, peanut or almond butter, jam, cinnamon, granola, chia seeds.. I mean you really can’t mess it up. Also, this oatmeal is FILLING!

So there you have it: a budget friendly, filling, healthy, fun, easy recipe that you can serve for breakfast, a snack, or even for a breakfast for dinner themed supper. I like to have this for lunch when I’ve had something salty for breakfast. It would also be fun to eat on the couch on a rainy Saturday morning with a candle lit and a happy movie on. Really any way you spin it, this Newly Married Steel Cut Oatmeal is a major winner!

Okay also – the oats are so cute. Cute food >

Oh yeah, and I have to tell you about this specific honey. It’s soooo goooooood. We discovered Bee Squared at a farmer’s market in Estes Park, Colorado last summer. We got sooo much honey, haha. My favorite was this caramel honey oooh my gosh it’s amazing. But this honey, the Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey, was aged in old whiskey barrels!!! So it has this delicious hint of whiskey and wow it just makes it so so good. Head to Bee Squared’s website to see all the fun kinds of honey they have!

And like I mentioned, almost any topping you like would work. But here’s what I used:

When it comes off the stove top, it will obviously be hot. That’s when I like to add toppings that are prone to melt, like honey, peanut butter and chocolate chips.
AND THAT’S IT!!!

So easy, so yummy! Enjoy!
