In 1897, when Goodall married Ella Newsome, Ella’s father built the mansion as their wedding gift. The columns—an anniversary gift, naturally—were added later by legendary Swiss carver Peter Mansbendel.

THE PERFECT VENUE

One of the prettiest locations to take photographs at Hotel Ella is the upstairs balcony. It is a beautiful and private location that some upstairs rooms even have private access to. This wrap around upper balcony always has great light and is a lovely portrait location for formidable weather conditions!

THE BALCONY

Hotel Ella is the only boutique hotel in downtown Austin with a ballroom. This light-filled expansive space is perfect for indoor ceremonies or receptions, replete with floor to ceiling draperies, making it a beautiful space for indoor portraits and reception photos.

THE BALLROOM

Wow your guests with an exquisite outdoor ceremony location that is both functional and picturesque. The bride's grand entrance from the front doors is a special moment for father and daughter, sure to get the perfect reaction from the groom!

THE LAWN

The beautiful house is such a breathtaking view for your ceremony, and as such the front or side lawn make the best locations for your ceremony. Larger weddings will fit on the front lawn, and smaller weddings can utilize the side lawn and sidewalk with a beautiful staircase as the backdrop.

Where should we have my ceremony at Hotel Ella?

Do they allow for sparkler exits? Should we do one?

The best time to take family portraits is normally right after the ceremony, and a great place to do so is usually at the ceremony altar. This will ensure guests have moved over to cocktail hour, and it will enable you to utilize ceremony florals for your family portraits.

Where do you recommend taking our family portraits?

The minimum amount of time for bride and groom portraits should be twenty minutes. However, for more portraits and more variety of portraits having two portrait times both 20 to 30 minutes long on the wedding day will allow for the best photos!

How long should we plan to take bride & groom portraits?

A great rule of thumb is to plan your ceremony time to take place at least two hours before sunset. This will ensure that your ceremony is lit with natural light, as well as your portraits after the ceremony. Light is your greatest resource for beautiful photos on your wedding day, so it's smart to utilize as much of it as you can!

What time should we schedule our ceremony to begin?

Because Hotel Ella has such ample space, having both the bride and the groom get ready for the wedding in separate rooms on the premises is a fabulous idea. This makes photographing both getting ready processes very easy and it saves travel time for more portraits!
