I am so excited to share Emily and Drew’s engagement session at Mattie’s Austin and Zilker Park today! These two are a classic example of so many of my really sweet couples. When we had our initial consultation, they explained to me that they can be the dreaded “a” word during pictures… “awkward.” I smiled a knowing smile. Most of my couples tell this to me when we meet for the first time. They say they’ll be stiff and awkward and they won’t know what to do with their hands.

Well, while the hands thing usually is true (and I have all the ideas to fix it) after just a few minutes of working together we’re able to get the natural, sweet, real photos you see of Emily and Drew here! The secret is that very few people truly feel normal posing for photos – and it just happens to be my specialty to work with normal couples who think they’ll be awkward (trust me, I got you) but as it turns out they just needed a little bit of comfort and coaching to get them to a place to be authentic in front of the camera!

Engagement Session at Mattie’s Austin

It was so fun to shoot at Mattie’s and Zilker Park for Emily and Drew’s engagement session, and as you can see, they became totally themselves in front of the camera and we got so many great moments captured. What I especially loved was that while it was so easy to work together, it was also so easy to spend the time together! I love to ensure I really am a great fit for my couples and vice versa, and when I initially met with Drew and Emily I knew we’d blend so well. We had so much fun laughing through their session and then afterwards we went to chat and grab some lunch at the Zilker food truck park. They are so down to earth, kind, and funny – I just can’t wait for their wedding this fall at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens!
